You can reach Elva by car in two different ways from the Maira Valley. The first possibility, shorter and more spectacular, is to follow the "Vallone" ("deep valley") road. You will find it by turning on your right at the "Elva" sign that you will find soon after the houses of a village named "Stroppo". Be careful, the road can be impressive, since rather narrow and rapidly ascending, for 9 km, amont breathtaking landscapes. The alternative will be the road (17 km) at your right just before "Bassura di Stroppo), following the signs for Paschero, Cucchiales. From there, you will slowly reach 1900 m above sea level, at the "Cavallina pass". The the road gradually bring you to the heart of Elva.
You can also reach Elva from the Varaita Valley just North of it, by following the road that reached the Sampeyre pass. You can take it from the small mountain town Sampeyre, and you will reach Borgata Serre (the main Elva village) after 25 km. Pay attention during the winter season, when the only possible choice will be by Valle Maira (the Vallone, in particular, expect exceptional, recent snow falls).
